In January of 2020, Varun Dhawan’s last movie to have a theatrical release, Street Dancer 3D, earned a total of Rs. 75 crores. Unfortunately, due to the events of 2020, his Coolie No. 1 was released directly to OTT, with no further new releases that year. However, with the premiere of JugJugg Jeeyo in 2021, the movie has successfully surpassed the total of Street Dancer 3D, achieving this in only 16 days.
Presently, JugJugg Jeeyo stands at a total box office collection of Rs. 76.43 crores. To reach the next milestone, it needs to surpass the collections of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya [Rs. 78 crores], Sui Dhaaga – Made In India lifetime [Rs. 79.10 crores] and Kalank [Rs. 81 crores]. Rest assured, this would not be a problem as JugJugg Jeeyo is most likely to become Varun Dhawan’s fifth highest grosser after Dilwale [Rs. 148 crores], Judwaa 2 [Rs. 138.61 crores], Badrinath Ki Dulhania [Rs. 116.60 crores] and ABCD – Any Body Can Dance – 2 [Rs. 107 crores].
On the other hand Hollywood release Thor: Love and Thunder has been doing exceedingly well as it has surpassed the entire first week total of Thor: Ragnarok [Rs. 40.37 crores] in just 3 days. The film is continuing to collect huge and brought in Rs. 17.50 crores* on Saturday, which is excellent. As a result, the film has managed to accumulate Rs. 48.10 crores* and there is a lot more to come before the first weekend comes to a close. In fact the film has come quite close to its first day total of Rs. 18.60 crores which was quite impressive. With collections set to go past Rs. 20 crores today, the superhero film could well emerge as a superhit in the long run.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
