Recently, was reported that Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari became one of the first Bollywood movies to return to the theaters following the reopening from the Covid-19 pandemic. Released by Zee, this movie opened to the public on Sunday instead of the usual Friday.
Kudos to Zee for the groundbreaking move to bring back theatrical releases, though the audience response wasn’t quite what was anticipated. Opening day receipts totaled Rs. 0.85 crore and subsequent days followed suit. Even with restrictions in place, the film raked in Rs. 2.32 crore in the first week of its domestic release. Delhi-U.P circuit made up for approx. Rs. 1.05 crore of this figure, followed by Mumbai circuit with Rs. 0.59 crore.
Released across 800 screens and approximately 2,800 shows in India, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari movie will remain the default new release for some weeks till other releases announce their dates.
