Milap Zaveri has reason to be elated. His recent film Marjaavaan opened with a big number on Friday and witnessed an encouraging growth at the box office ever since. On Sunday, it collected Rs 10.18 crores, going into double digits for the first time. Though the numbers have been fairly steady throughout the week, it is expected from such masala movies as there isn’t much of a family audience present at single screens like there is in multiplexes over the weekend.
Marjaavaan has made an impressive debut for Sidharth Malhotra, almost matching the weekend collection of his previous hit film, Kapoor & Sons – Rs. 26.35 crores. Despite its delayed release from Karan Johar production, Marjaavaan earned a total of Rs. 24.42 crores mainly from smaller cities and multiplexes with relatively cheaper ticket rates.
So far, Marjaavaan has achieved success that will ensure its eventual profit-making. What remains to be seen is where it will go from here. The next goal for everyone involved with the project is a lifetime total of around 50 crores, and anything beyond that would just be icing on the cake.
