Sadly, for the Hindi film industry, there is another major commercial flop to be seen at the box office. Shabaash Mithu is one of the several Hindi films which have failed to generate the anticipated interest among audiences and thus is destined to be withdrawn quickly with much lesser collection than expected.
Initially, expectations had been high that the film would open with collections around Rs. 1 crore. However, on the opening day, it did only half of that. Further, hopes of a recovery over the weekend dissipated as the movie continued to struggle. Eventually, any hopes of a recovery were dashed, and its daily collections just stayed around Rs. 15 lakhs, proving to be a crushing disappointment.
For Taapsee Pannu, this was an extremely important project, considering Sushant Singh Rajput’s performance in ‘M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story’ and Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of Kapil Dev in ’83. She got to take on the role of another living legend, Mithali Raj. However, despite her stellar performance, the movie was not adequately promoted, and its lacklustre results were reflected in the box office collections of merely Rs. 2.60 crores*, set to finish at Rs. 2.75 crores*. This serves as a tragic but true testament to the movie’s failure.
