Despite being showcased at a limited number of venues, Saand Ki Aankh has successfully entered its third week. While it survived through the second week, Rs. 20 crores in two weeks is not quite the result one would expect for a movie that was acclaimed by critics and lauded by viewers. In an ideal situation, these collections should have been achieved during the first week itself.
Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar have earned widespread acclaim for their performances in Saand Ki Aankh, and are both now preparing to work on their next respective projects. Taapsee is set to release Thappad while Bhumi’s been featured in Bala which was a huge success, as well as Pati Patni aur Woh. Unfortunately, the theatrical run of Saand Ki Aankh was not too profitable.
Ujda Chaman has essentially departed from theatres, with only a few screenings available in some locations. It’s total revenue within its first week amounted to an estimated Rs. 12 crores*. Though this low-budget film was fiscally safe, it was expecting more from theatrical audiences that didn’t manifest – meaning it did not achieve its predicted goals in theaters. Now, the attention shifts to the digital arena, as success in that area may save Ujda Chaman from being classed as an overall under-performer.
