Allu Arjun’swas released in December of last year and soon grew to become one of the highest–grossing films of 2021. Initially, the Hindi adaptation had a sluggish start at the box office, however its revenue steadily rose as the weeks went by. After seven weeks of running in theaters, the movie surpassed the Rs. 100 cr. milestone. Interestingly, Pushpa was also made available for OTT streaming and continued to attract a strong audience in theaters.
Discussing the merits of Pushpa: The Rise, Taran remarked that it was unusual for viewers to rewatch a film on OTT, but the temptation of seeing it on the big screen again has brought them back to cinemas.

Later reasoning why, Pushpa was a big screen experience and not an OTT one Taran adds, “OTT is ok for certain genres, and experimental cinema. You don’t watch films on OTT in one go; it does not give you the feel of a community viewing experience that you get in theatres. There are disturbances, you may get a call, you will pause the film, and then continue it again, it is rarely viewed in one go like in a cinema hall. That is why Pushpa has worked, because you have to watch it in one go.”
Tara emphasizedsignificance of the social media fervor in raising awareness for the film, mentioning how the dialogues and music were dominating the digital sphere. Additionally, he recounted his personal experience in watching the film, explaining that, even though he initially began streaming Pushpa on an OTT platform, he had to stop within ten minutes because it just wasn’t enjoyable; he chose to relish the experience on the big screen, deciding not to dampen his joy with a subpar streaming version.
Taran was askedif the absence of new movies in theaters has helped Pushpa: The Rise, to which he responded, “It has definitely played a role. But that isn’t enough to guarantee the success of the film. If that were true, Ranveer Singh’s 83 would have continued to bring in big numbers.” To wrap up his thought, Taran Adarsh said, “Ultimately, the effect OTT has had on the movie itself may be limited, but it has made a tremendous impact on the wallets of the producers.”
