Four and a half months after the release of 83, Ranveer Singh will be arriving with Jayeshbhai Jordaar this Friday. The film has been ready for a while now and could well have been released last year itself; however, due to the pandemic situation at hand, it was postponed until now. YRF had the option to take OTT route or go traditional cinemas – but they decided that theatrical releases were best. From that perspective, what they did is truly commendable.
Though the film’s promo has generated about an average response, one would expect more when seeing it for themselves. The overall theme of the movie is centered on being a social drama with bits of humor thrown in. Yes, Ranveer has undergone a complete transformation and seems unrecognizable – or at least one would hope so! However, while this may entice some people to see it on opening day, they will find themselves disappointed because they won’t find enough pull factors that many other films have had before them such as Arjun Reddy . As well despite Shalini Pandey starring in her very first Bollywood film – there isn’t much hype surrounding it whatsoever.
During pre-H1N1, the films’ opening would have been about Rs. 8-9 crores, considering the star power of people like Ranveer Singh and Aditya Chopra who were involved. But with so many Bollywood films releasing lately, it wouldn’t be surprising if the film only managed to rake in approximately Rs. 4-5 crores on its first day at the box office Friday.
