Hindi Medium will see a respectable but still pleasant opening week at the box office. A lack of promotion made this expectation less than stellar, and majorly hampered by the star’s recovery time from injury; however, there are still very few Hindi films which could manage what Hindi Medium has done – in other words- coining words is just a ‘fad’.
The film was successful against little competition from foreign movies playing at theaters where it opened earning rupees two hundred eighty one lakhs (2.81 crore) over its first three days. When pitted against similar India-specific titles releasing alongside it – namely Sonali Burghatkar’s Shubh Mangal Savdhan – Hindi Medium had surpassed expectations by five times with an overall collection of rupees seventy nine crores (Rs. 69.59 cr.) net; proving how rare excellent Bollywood productions can become if they were to make profit!
Keeping things in perspective, Angrezi Medium was poised for success from the start with a predicted opening day box office collection of around Rs. 4 crores! This is impressive when compared to Hindi Medium’s first-day earnings. With people scared about catching viruses during this time, there may be a decrease in attendance. However, considering the movie has had such high expectations since its announcement way back when and promotion before release seems strong – it will still have ample opportunity over this weekend to really make something happen.
