Malang has done quite well during the week days so far, bringing in 39.65 crore rupees in its first week. The opening was better than anticipated; netting 6.71 crores rupees and at least 25.36 crores rupees over the weekend- significantly surpassing the box office expectations with surprisingly little to no drop off between weekends and weekdays! After this much success, it is likely that Malang will break 55 crore rupees before ending its life run- netting a minimum of 60 crore rupees due to surpassing initial projections!
In its fifth week, the Vidhu Vinod Chopra-directed film Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior took in more than what Shikara managed on its first week. At just Rs. 6.75 crores*, it is yet another one of those films that will go unnoticed despite good reviews from critics and audiences alike. This can’t compare with Malang whose opening day box office collection was Rs. 4 lakhs*. Regardless, the word-of-mouth was exceptionally positive for Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior which earned more than double what Shikara did in a whole week bringing in an approximated amount of Rs. 10 crores* (US$1 million) by their 5th weekend release date.
