Liger has delivered a terrific performance at the box office and achieved its spot as the highest–grossing opener of actor Vijay Deverakonda’s films, outdoing even Dear Comrade and World Famous Lover. On its opening day, it grossed 19 crores including paid previews in Hindi speaking regions; a great accomplishment when viewed as a Vijay Deverakonda movie. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone, it grossed 15 crores while 2.25 crores were earned from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. The Hindi speaking areas raked in 1.75 crores to contribute to the grand total.
In the morning screenings, Liger opened to full theatres. But following negative feedback from movie–goers, attendance dropped drastically for the evening shows. The movie’s global distribution rights have already been sold at an astounding price of 90 crores rupees – which is why the financiers of Vijay Deverakonda’s project are bracing for huge losses if viewership falls further by Friday.
Friday’s release of Liger in Hindi should help level out its overall drop rate, though the performance of the Telugu version will still be what truly matters. The film saw a strong launch in its paid previews across Hindi territories, taking in over Rs. 1.30 crore nett on its first day. This was a great chance for the production team to increase its success further by bringing it to Hindi audiences on Thursday, as they could have expected to bring in around Rs. 5 crore plus in box office numbers with the dubbed version.
