On Saturday, there were hardly any new Hindi releases and the movie collections were only marginally better than before. Although HIT – The First Case performed better than Shabaash Mithu, the comparison is only on a relative scale.
Let us start our conversation by discussing HIT – The First Case. The film contains a great deal of quality content which has received more positive reviews than negative ones. However, due to it’s OTT release and its namesake from the South garnering a positive reception in 2020, the film’s overall audience response has been lukewarm, a fact further evidenced by the ‘just about fair’ growth the film had on Saturday with Rs. 2.01 crores earned and its total earnings at Rs. 3.36 crores.
As for Shabaash Mithu, it is having a major challenge in finding its footing. This is similar to the situation with other films focused on female protagonists, prior to the pandemic even Panga, starring Kangana Ranaut, failed to make its mark and Saina, featuring Parineeti Chopra, didn’t generate much interest either when it was released theatrically last year. Even Taapsee Pannu’s Rashmi Rocket had a digital-only launch, and now Shabaash Mithu, which seemed the most promising, has earned only Rs. 0.70 crores* on Sunday, accumulating to Rs. 1.20 crores* in total.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
