Malang is holding up fairly well considering the circumstances. While it may be a niche flick that appeals only to limited segments of an urban audience, Anil Kapoor and his cast mates Kunal Khemu, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Disha Patani delivered strong numbers on Tuesday. Currently at Rs. 33.2 crores*, Malang will surpass Rs. 40 crores this week if it continues at this rate; anything higher than 50% will help maintain its presence in theatres during the first two weeks post release.
Shikara had lower showings yesterday but still managed to generate around 20 lakhs* more than Monday – bringing total earnings to around 60 lakhs*. While this project turned out to be a box office disappointment given how few theaters are allotting screenings for it, all isn’t lost yet since Malang’s cost was quite low which means profits from digital platforms should salvage its loss after break even point is reached.
The upcoming film Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior is predicted to be a success across all mediums, earning Rs. 269 crores in just 5 days. Theatrically, its popularity has increased by approximately 0.8 crore rupees on Tuesday alone; which brings the total theatrical earnings to Rs. 2768556 lakh. Satellite broadcasts of this movie will also most likely see high ratings from audiences as Ajay Devgn is one of India’s top 6 movie stars who are popular nationwide (and even internationally). Digital responses for the movie are also expected to grow even higher with people eagerly downloading it or streaming it online–making this an undeniable hit!
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited.
