In spite of underwhelming promotional activities, the Nitesh Tiwari movie Chhichhore performed at the Indian Box Office during its opening weekend. Contrary to initial speculations about if Sajid Nadiadwala and Nitesh Tiwari could put together a successful pairing for the first time after seeing very little promotion leading up to release date, Chishore was able to beat out Sunday projections by taking home an estimated 15 crore rupees (equivalent of $2 million) from Thursday screenings alone – exceeding Friday’s 6 crore rupee haul ($900k).
Despite some noise from critics who say ‘the film does nothing new’, it became one of only two movies released this year that were able to reach 5-day opening weekend revenues over 150 crore rupees ($22m), as other big-budget fare like Fawad Khan’s Titli also disappointed.
