War had stirred up quite a bit of anticipation amongst moviegoers. Everyone expected the film to easily rake in Rs. 40 crores on its opening day and cross Rs. 50 crores mark by Wednesday owing to Gandhi Jayanti holiday. Nevertheless, due to two more movies released concurrently with it, namely Joker and Sye Raa Narsimha Reddy, the total screens available got divided among all three.
What a fantastic debut! Opening at roughly 4,000 screens, the film surpassed all predictions with its amazing first–day earnings of Rs. 53.35 crores; Hindi versions contributed Rs. 51.60 crores while south versions generated the remainder.
With Siddharth Anand at the helm, War has smashed the opening day record of Yash Raj Films’ Thugs of Hindostan set last Diwali. On its release, it earned a massive Rs. 52.25 crores in Hindi alone and Rs. 50.75 crores in total. It is an even greater accomplishment when we consider that War was released on fewer screens than its predecessor and yet managed to achieve higher numbers!
Word of mouth being strongly in its favor, the Hrithik Roshan–Tiger Shroff starrer is likely to experience a magnificent opening weekend.
