Akshay Kumar’sfilm Laxmii, which recently hit the big screens in certain foreign countries that have reopened cinemas since the Covid-19 outbreak, shows that moviegoers are still somewhat hesitant to go to theaters. Even with a relatively low turnout, Laxmii has estimated to make about USD 400K [Rs. 2.98 cr.] in global box office earnings during its extended weekend debut.
Interestingly, a major chunk of the box office earning for Laxmii has been generated within the U.A.E/G.C.C market that saw AED 718,237 [Rs. 1.45 cr.] coming in over its extended weekend. Following the UAE/GCC territory is the overseas market of Australia that saw Laxmii collect A$ 1,29,417 [Rs. 70.27 lakhs] while New Zealand & Fiji added NZ$ 1,17,056 [Rs. 60 lakhs].
The release of Laxmii much quieter than anticipated, yet the anticipation is that it will see a significant increase in business in the following days. Although it will take some time for things to return to pre–pandemic normalcy, Laxmii is helping to provide audiences with a push to make their way to the cinema.
