The Ayushmann Khurrana-fronted social dramedy, Doctor G has opened above expectations at the box office in India. According to early estimates, the movie has collected 3 crore rupees on its first day – an impressive figure considering industry analysts were expecting 2 crore rupees going into its release. The film was mostly successful due to Ayushmann’s past popularity amongst his fans and those who may have been looking forward to his comeback after hearing about him being named one of Bollywood’s most eligible bachelors last year.
Comedy-driven movies starring actor Ayushmann Khurrana about socially relevant issues has been garnering quite a bit of attention, but now its long term box office prospects depend on whether or not the audiences give it a positive review. The movie’s performance was better in multiplexes than Chandigarh Kara Aashiqui; and if this trend continues for single screen theaters, then Doctor G could exceed estimates set at around Rs. 4 crores for its opening weekend. Audiences coming out from previews were hopeful for what they saw so far, and now all eyes are on Saturday’s ticket sales because those numbers can heavily influence the movie’s future success – which is especially high stakes given that Doctor G isn’t one of Khurrana’s most anticipated movies recently.
