After the moderately successful opening weekend, there can be a sense of optimism for actor Ayushmann Khurrana. Doctor G pulled in about as much revenue during its opening weekend as did his previous film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui; both films were marketed towards the same demographic. While Doctor G started off with Rs. 3.87 crores on Friday, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui managed to draw only slightly less at Rs. 3.75 crores when it premiered three months ago- making them basically neck and neck in terms of popularity and success after just one day of release.
While Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui saw an opening weekend of Rs. 14.53 crores, Doctor G actually managed a slightly better figure of Rs. 15.03 crores after collecting Rs. 5.22 crores on Saturday and then growing even higher to collect rs 5.94 crores during the Sunday viewing hours too! It may not seem like much for now; but don’t forget that this was only their first weekend – it’s worth getting excited about if you can see how much room there is for improvement in these numbers yet!
Though there has been no indication of it yet, the film Doctor G seems to be going for a lifetime total of around Rs. 30-35 crores. This would make it comparable with other films such as Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui which grossed approximately Rs. 22 crore over its entire theatrical run and then ended up having an approximate lifetime total of Rs. 28 crore after collecting an additional Rs. 6 crore from satellite rights in spite of being a flop show overseas (though this was primarily due to poor marketing).
