The anticipation for Avatar: The Way Of Water has far exceeded expectations. 20th Century Studios India announced that over 15,000 tickets were sold in premium formats during the first 3 days leading up to release date of 16 December. Advance ticket sales will likely increase because there are only three weeks until opening day – this indicates a positive reaction towards the film among audiences who want to see it in theaters.
Reacting on the news, Kamal Gianchandani. CEO of PVR Pictures, said in a statement James Cameron and his films have always created magic on the Indian box office and audiences have been waiting for this spectacle! The sequel to Avatar will be a massively entertaining family film, said Rajender Singh Jyala, Chief Programming Officer at Inox Leisure Limited. Our premium format movies across most of the INOX properties are already sold-out; this is great news for us. Booking numbers will go up significantly once we open bookings for regular 3D and 2D formats.
As we look back at the release of the first movie in the franchise, Devang Sampat, CEO of Cinepolis, commented, When Avatar released 13 years ago, we were blown away by how people reacted to this film. It was a big deal then just as it is now. And every time people come here they always seem to praise our huge cinematic screens that are usually equipped with state-of-the-art 3D technology.
Directed by James Cameron, Avatar had been released in 2009 and it starred Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Laz Alonso. The movie became wildly popular worldwide.
