The much anticipated third installment of the Dance-film franchise starring Varun Dhawan came out this past Friday. With all of the hype leading up to its release, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that we were all expecting big things from this one. But would it live up? As predicted, this film did open strong – even though there were a few hiccups along the way.
In this week’s Box Office Report, we’re taking a look at the opening weekend collections of Street Dancer 3D while comparing these to Varun Dhawan’s previous releases. With an opening weekend collection of Rs. 41.23 cr, the business for Street Dancer 3D has managed to top Dishoom – collecting Rs. 37.32 cr – and become Varun Dhawan’s fifth highest-grossing opener of all time. The film also manages to beat out some other past productions from Dhawan himself: Sui Dhaaga (Rs 36.6cr), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (Rs 33.74cr), Student Of The Year (Rs 30cr) and Badlapur (Rs 23.5cr).
As of now, Street Dancer 3D that released across 3700 screens in the domestic market still continues to run and remains as the audience’s first choice in theatres. But, no one can tell what will happen next for this movie, since it has not been very well-received by most people.
NOTE: For the purpose of listing Varun Dhawan’s highest grossers we have not included the film Dilwale that had collected Rs. 65.09 cr on its opening weekend, since it did not feature Varun in a sole lead role.
