This unique tale follows a woman in the role of a housewife and her day to day life full of tricks and strategies to keep her family afloat. With Romesh Kalra at the helm as director, and Rajan Shahi in charge as producer, this is sure to be a memorable series!

Anupama, the Indian television series created by Rajan Shahi and aired on Star Plus is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The show, which debuted in July 2020, is a remake of Bengali serial Sreemoyee and features Gaurav Khanna, Rupali Ganguly and Sudhanshu Pandey in the leading roles. The show has been produced under the banner of Director’s Kut Productions.

The highly popular television serial Anupama is quickly becoming the talk of the town. In an upcoming episode, Anupama and her husband, Anuj will embark on their honeymoon to Mumbai. Once they reach the bustling city, viewers can expect to see a plethora of romantic moments between this loving couple.

Recent news suggests that the hit show Anupama is adding another character to its ever-expanding cast: child artist Asmi Dev, daughter of actor Neema Denzongpa. The newest addition joins a family member of Anuj’s who has recently been introduced as part of the storyline, as well as two other actors entering the serial for the first time. Anupama Full Story/Synopsis

Anupamaa chronicles the story of a traditional Gujarati housewife who is incredibly generous and loyal to her family, always putting their needs before her own. Despite being constantly overlooked and undervalued for not having a college degree, she remains humble and gracious. Her selfless disposition never wavers even in the face of discrimination.

On her 25th Wedding Anniversary, Anupamaa’s worst fears are confirmed when she sees Vanraj, her husband of eight years, getting intimate with his colleague Kavya Gandhi. Despite warnings from both Devika, her best friend and Aniruddh, Kavya’s husband, Anupamaa refuses to accept the reality of their affair. With broken heart and spirit, she severs ties with Vanraj and resolves to take control of her life. Both Samar and Paritosh are filled with resentment upon learning the truth; while Samar stops talking to his father completely, Paritosh rushes into an arranged marriage with Kinjal. Fortunately enough, Nandini enters the scene at just the right moment – shortly after Samar finds out about her infertility – thus making way for them to come together romantically. When Rakhi brings all these facts before the Shah family members, it devastates them.

After sustaining an injury, Vanraj was tended to by Anupamaa. As a result of her compassionate caretaking, the former grew increasingly fond of the latter and wanted to profess his affection for her. However, Anupamaa had made up her mind and requested for a divorce from Vanraj. Understandably taken aback at this suggestion, he quickly fled the house and holed himself up in a wellness retreat in Surat. Eventually tracking him down, she again raised the issue that seemed to be slowly tearing them apart.

After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Anupamaa requested Vanraj to sign their divorce papers. Subsequently, both Kavya and Aniruddh ended their marriage with Kavya in preparation for her nuptials to Vanraj. But on the wedding day itself, he vanished and was eventually confronted by Anupamaa who accused him of not having the bravery or dedication needed. Nonetheless, they were married in the end. After a successful emergency operation, Hasmukh implored Anupamaa to remain with them forever as she would always be part of the family – an offer she accepted gladly.

Kavya’s continuous mockery of Anupamaa, which she hoped would turn the family against her, was fruitless. Nevertheless, Anupamaa’s Dance Academy was eventually established with Samar and Nandini’s support – a moment of joy for the whole family. Wanting to give back to Anupamaa for her hard work, she suggested Vanraj open a café in her academy; unfortunately Kavya interceded and instead of appreciating the suggestion he resorted to taunt Anupamaa once more.

After making a successful name for himself in the business world, Anuj Kapadia made his way back to India from USA. His arrival in India sparked an old flame when it turned out he was a college batchmate and unrequited lover of Anupamaa’s. Seeing them together caused Vanraj to feel an emotion akin to rage. Impressed with Anupamaa’s innovative business ideas, Anuj proposed she join him as a partner for his restaurant, however this caused more distress among the ranks of Vanraj’s followers. But before long, the contract had been signed and the deal between the two entrepreneurs was done. Unbeknownst to them at first, Rohan – Nandini’s former beau – entered their lives with malicious intent; but luckily Anuj managed to apprehend him while attempting murder on Samar and Anupamaa, sending him running back home in fear of being arrested due to his father’s crimes.

Weary of all the jibes and allegations, Anupamaa resolves to leave the Shah household as Samar joins her in moving out. Shortly after, they start their new life in a rented home. Kavya presents papers for Vanraj, Dolly and Anupamaa to sign, detailing their property rights. Blinded by his irritation towards certain family members’ persistent denigration of Anupamaa’s reputation, Anuj unthinkingly divulges his unreplied affection for her to the Shahs while not knowing she is listening in. Although shaken up at first when discovering that Anuj holds one-sided feelings for her, Anupamaa soon regains strength thanks to moral support from Samar and comfort from Gopichandra; thus rekindling their friendship together.

Later, Kavya reveals that she tricked everyone into signing property papers in her name, causing Vanraj to become vengeful. He presents divorce papers to her, surprising everyone. However, Kavya refuses to divorce him. Meanwhile, Anuj gets injured while fighting with some goons and Anupamaa begins to realize her feelings for him. She decides to stay at his residence until he fully recovers. However, Vanraj shocks everyone by starting a new business venture called Vanika Teamworks with a woman named Malvika. It is later revealed that Malvika is actually Anuj’s sister, and Anuj is an adopted child of the Kapadias, causing a huge shock for everyone.

It is later revealed that Malvika is struggling with depression and has experienced domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband. Anupamaa helps her to cope with the trauma, but Kavya’s departure leads to a major argument between Samar and Nandini, fueled by Vanraj. They eventually resolve their misunderstandings after Kavya returns, but Anupamaa is shocked to learn that Vanraj has been manipulating Malvika in an attempt to get rich quickly, and hires Kavya to keep an eye on him as a result.

Vanraj manipulates Malvika against Anuj, causing Anuj to transfer all of the Kapadia Empire to Vanraj. In response, Anuj and Anupamaa vow to start a new chapter by reviving Anupamaa Dance Academy. On Valentine’s Day, while Anupamaa proposes to Anuj, Nandini leaves Samar due to her doubts about marriage and returns to the USA, leaving Samar heartbroken and causing him to swear off love and focus solely on his dance career. Later, the Shah family celebrates Anupamaa’s 45th birthday, and they are overjoyed to learn that Kinjal is pregnant.

Paritosh crosses a line when he labels his unborn baby a bad omen, and he pays the price as his entire family becomes furious with him. Anupamaa and Anuj then decide to marry, which makes Leela, Vanraj, Kavya, Rakhi, Pakhi, and Paritosh very upset. As the wedding ceremonies begin, with Anupamaa and Anuj’s supporters in attendance, Malvika comes back and sacks Vanraj, Kavya, and Paritosh from her company due to their lack of professionalism and insensitivity towards her brother and Anupamaa.

Anupama Episode Update

On the episode of Anupama that aired on November 23, 2023, Anupama tries to wake up Anuj by approaching him with a pressing problem. As Anuj’s eyes open, Anupama begins to cry and hug him. Anuj then tries to wake up Nirmit. Anupama tells Anuj that she saw some boys dragging Dimpy away and, as they search for her, they find her belongings on the road. Anupama is saddened by the sight of Dimpy in such a distressed state. Anuj tells the police that he took a photo of the perpetrators and their car, which he will use to help create a sketch of the suspects.

Anupama expresses her disappointment that she was unable to save Dimpy despite her best efforts. She wonders how a boy could behave in such a way towards a woman.

Vanraj tells Leela that he is leaving the house and starts packing his things. Leela asks him where he is going. Anuj asks the police not to let the criminals leave. The inspector tells Anuj to control his partner, causing her to feel distressed and say that they will do their best. Anupama wonders aloud why this happened to Dimpy. Anuj calls it a very frightening act. Anupama cries and wonders what Dimpy must be feeling if they were feeling so frightened. Anupama talks about the feelings a girl has when someone touches her or looks at her improperly. Anuj comforts Anupama as she reprimands herself for her comments.

Vanraj is confronted by Kavya about not providing food for Pakhi. Leela tells Vanraj not to spoil Pakhi, but Kavya argues that if they support Pakhi, Anupaam’s attempts to teach her a lesson will be ineffective. Leela suggests that Pakhi can start ordering food as if she were at a dhaba (maika). Hasmukh, Toshu, and Kinjal also try to explain to Vanraj that he cannot let his daughter go without food. Despite this, Vanraj insists on serving Pakhi food from home, saying that he has seen her place two separate food orders that day. Leela takes away his meal box, saying that everyone wants Pakhi to become independent and learn her lesson. Hasmukh says that sometimes parents need to be strict in order to discipline their children.

The doctor has recommended transferring Dimpy and Nirmit to a more equipped hospital as this one does not frequently handle such critical cases. Nirmit is critically injured with multiple fractures and internal injuries, and Dimpy’s condition is even more critical due to ongoing abuse. Anuj says he had intended to do the same thing, but came back to this hospital upon learning about it. The doctor advises Anupama to go and be with Dimpy because he has been repeatedly muttering her name. Anupama is hesitant to face Dimpy, but ultimately finds the courage to go to his room.

First Episode on Anupama Starlife

In the beginning of the episode, Anupama is seen praying for everyone in her family. Bapu ji advises her to also pray for herself. Anupama agrees and continues her prayers. Jhilmil arrives and begins her chores for the day. Anupama then lights a diya and starts preparing breakfast. Bapu ji observes Anupama working alone and comments on how Devi used to handle everything on her own. Anupama reminds him to put the Misri back in its place. She thinks to herself that although this is Kanha’s house, she is responsible for taking care of it. Anupama then goes about her tasks. Bapu ji muses that the puja for the goddess doesn’t happen because the goddess doesn’t stay in one place for long.

Anupama walks over to her son Paritosh, offering him a cup of coffee. “What are you studying?” she asks, to which he replies, “You won’t understand.” Anupama picks up a book and says, “You won’t understand this either.” Paritosh responds by asking her to explain a dancer. Anupama then tidies up the room before heading to her daughter’s room. Upon entering, her daughter Pakhi (or Sweety) says, “Ask and come in.” Anupama asks, “Did you ask before you were born, what are you doing?” Pakhi replies, “It’s fashion.” Anupama then begins to sew a skirt for her daughter. Pakhi asks her to close the door and leave, so Anupama goes to her own room. There, she finds her husband and prepares his clothes for the day. She also puts on some bangles.

Anupama is exercising with her husband when she mentions his protein shake. As she helps him by holding his feet during the workout, she compliments his youthful appearance and says that no one would guess he is 45 years old. He responds by teasing Anupama about her own age, saying she looks 50 even though she is only 42. Anupama appears upset and asks if she really looks that old, to which her husband quickly backtracks and asks if she said something. She denies it but is clearly upset and begins to cry. Just then, their son Samar enters the room and distracts them both by singing a song before announcing that he has a dance class and leaving. Anupama smiles at the interruption and is observed by their neighbor, Baa, who comments on Anupama’s laughter through binoculars. Anupama goes to greet Baa and they discuss Anupama’s knee injury and Baa’s request for money. Anupama mentions that she already used the money for Baa’s blouse stitching. Anupama then goes to serve food.

Bapu ji quizzed Leela on when she would modify and why Anupama was to give the Agnipariksha. She resolutely answered never, because, according to her, he always suggested that. After encouraging everyone to eat, Anupama supplied medicines for Bapu ji’s condition. But Pakhi refused Thepla and she asked for forgiveness from Anupama, but then her husband cut in to apologize on behalf of them both. Just then Pakhi laughed at the expense of Samar and Anupama which made Samar upset enough to leave immediately afterwards. At this point, Baa asked Anupama to take a meal over to him; though his partner remarked that she didn’t understand how hard it is working people do. Nonetheless Pakhi had agreed too after being warned of acne should she decide not consume food outside instead, although still finding tiffin an uncomfortable idea before they finally left home. Bapu ji then prompted Anupama to partake herself while at the same time ridiculing Baa since Samar wasn’t present as he was supposed too – in turn asking Anupamato lay out their clothes to dry right away upon seating herself with them eventually!

Anupama and her friend Devika greeted each other with a hug, the former asking how the latter’s time in America was. An introduction to Baa and Bapu ji followed, where Baa pointed out that Devika should have visited her mother’s place rather than theirs. Despite being teased by Baa, Devika still suggested going out with Anupama for some catching up; yet they were told to stay there instead. At this point, Devika complimented Anupama’s thoughtfulness before Bapu ji commented on how misguided she had been in doing so. Before departing, an amused Baa questioned why Devika didn’t have any sindoor (vermilion) in her hair and if it hadn’t been noticed by her in-laws prior to the divorce – to which the response was simply a denial of any such thing due to lack of marriage and having previously been divorced. She concluded the conversation by showing them a tattoo reading I’m enough as an explanation of events leading up to this life event; shortly after this exchange she took leave with Anupama accompanying her on their trip out.

Anupama inquired about when they were to return home, for she was a mother and found it bizarre. Devika requested her to speak sensibly, before guiding her to the historic fort. Anupama’s countenance lit up seeing the spot, making her recollect the happy days with friends. Suddenly, those buddies turned up crying ‘Surprise!’ and embraced each other tightly. Questions came up about their lives and how hard Anupama worked as a wife and mother was commended by all. She responded modestly saying she enjoyed caring for her family so working was an effortless task; nevertheless, some ribbing over her husband could be heard which made Anupama giggle while remembering childishness games. Devika asked who used to call out names and upon being told of the members in Anupama’s clan suggested mentioning hers too! Nevertheless, rather than uttering his name, she simply stated Anupama. Unconvinced by that response Devika pointed out why did she put herself at the end? To this Anupama reasoned that everyone had equal rights within a family before finally asking what time is it – evidently there was still an hour left!

Samar was dancing to the rhythm of the music when Pakhi walked in and asked for water. However, Samar refused her help, prompting them to fight. At this point Paritosh stepped in, looking for tea. Baa told him that his mother had gone out with her friends. Pakhi felt deprived even of coffee while Paritosh complained of hunger. Anupama realized the time had come and her phone went off as she made an anklet herself with a promise of returning home soon. Upon reaching home, her husband called out to her asking for tea but only to be informed by Baa that Anupama had gone out with her divorced friend. Disgruntled, he sat before the door as Anupama ran around, danced and got applauded by her friends who she had just met today through Devika’s introduction. It brought back old memories; reminding her of all the chores she was responsible for at home and hence compelled her into tears- joyful ones! She thanked Devika profusely as Devika questioned whom else she’d met on this getaway!

Anupama couldn’t believe it; she had met herself after so many years and hugged her with emotion. She then quickly left, taking her handmade anklet along. On her way home, Baa said that the bhog hadn’t been prepared yet. Everyone was waiting for Anupama’s return when suddenly, her husband’s car appeared and she wondered what had brought him back so soon and if he was alright. As she stepped inside the house, Anupama asked him if everything was alright as he’d arrived early. Bapu ji assured her of his safety, but then her husband reprimanded her for spending time with ‘friends’. When asked what the matter was, he queried who they were – family or friends? Anupama clarified that it was indeed family and explained how she had completed all necessary tasks including stocking up the fridge with coffee, tea and bhog for everyone.

He questioned her absence, to which she replied that Jhilmil’s daughter was unwell and had been granted leave. His reprimand came next; accusing her of caring for a maid’s child instead of their own, telling her to go out and enjoy life. Her apologies fell on deaf ears as he proceeded to evict her from his home before shutting the door behind him. She paused at his nameplate; Vanraj Shah – tears welling up in her eyes.
