Though it might seem like just another thin laptop, Swift X has more than enough power to make up for what it lacks in size. For example, this particular laptop includes an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 processor and an optional GeForce RTX 3050 Ti; however, these are limited features because they can only be obtained in the most expensive variant of the system.
The 300 nits brightness wasn’t exactly top of the range either and whilst it seemed bright and colorful to the naked eye – there were some inconsistencies with color calibration in regard to saturation levels; this may have been due to over saturation from red hues as opposed to anything else. Nevertheless, with its good viewing angles – we can say that this laptop would make an excellent choice for presentations when traveling.
Acer also adds that the screen is able to fully show off colors in accordance with the RGB standard. Web design and photo editing will be a breeze with this. Still, I’m disappointed that Acer doesn’t offer any customization options or upgrades – so people can’t choose a higher resolution display or support for Adobe RGB or DCI-P3 color standards.
It wasn’t difficult to hook my monitor up with this laptop, since it has a USB-C port and HDMI ports for connections. It was lacking other features that could’ve made it easier to use, such as an Ethernet port or headphone jack. There was wireless connectivity on the device, which made it easy to stay connected wherever you were. Some concerns we had were the odd placement of the power cord sticking out from the side of the device which looked awkward and there was also an issue with its camera quality. The 720p camera resolution left much to be desired.
With only an average base clock speed of 1800MHz, the Ryzen 7 5700U may seem underwhelming for many PC gamers, but with 8 processor cores on board, you can really take advantage of this machine. On Geekbench 5 tests, this laptop scored 10% higher than HP’s quad-core Intel-based Z Book Firefly 14 G8 notebook at 7,430 vs 5,450 – making it even more power efficient than most others as well!
Also featured in our review unit is the GeForce GTX 1650 discrete GPU, which scored an average of 80fps when running the Cine Bench OpenGL benchmark, but impressed us with a strong 38fps when running the 3D graphics of UNIGE Valley (leaving us wondering what kind of power it holds).
The fact that this laptop performed so well while being so inexpensive makes it all the more surprising. Fans do tend to grow loud when under pressure – such as intense games – but there was only a moderate amount of heat near the air vent located at the top right side of the keyboard.
In addition to its impressive battery life, the Swift X continued to run smoothly even after being left idle for an extended period of time. In fact, we were able to achieve a solid performance rating with only 50% of the monitor’s brightness setting during our streaming video test! With plenty of juice and power still left over, you’ll easily be able to run this laptop all day without worrying about plugging it in at any point unless you plan on going full force and never taking breaks from working.
