It was yet another day of contrasts when Jersey failed miserably while KGF: Chapter 2 (Hindi) soared past expectations in its second week. With both movies representing such opposite spectrums, there will surely be a stark difference between them in the near future; especially as time passes by. Let’s start with the Hindi movie. Even though it had strong competition from Rajinikanth and SS Rajamouli-KGF has succeeded in coming out victorious due to how well crafted the film is.
It continues to do great business on Monday-bringing home Rs 8.28 crores-which proves just how successful this movie has been so far for India who were eagerly waiting for an Indian commercial blockbuster like never before! By the time Friday earnings come back up to date, we’re expecting that these numbers will rise all the way up to Rs 329.40 crore (according to Box Office India). This humongous figure might even surpass 350 crore this week!
As of right now, Jersey has only made up a total gross of Rs. 16.5 crores* – a shortfall of close to 7.5 crores*. This is not what anyone involved in the film would have dreamt about when it was first set to start production, or even after all the promotion that went into getting it out there as an upcoming release. With Shahid Kapoor playing such a pivotal character- and with its being based off such an adored original- this film should’ve done far better than this mere number. It all comes down to awareness; no one seemed aware that this film existed at all so they didn’t bother going see it once it came out or talking positively about how great they thought it was afterwards, leaving Monday’s earnings amounting only to Rs 2 crores+.
A sad state of affairs indeed.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
