For example, an online shopping company may collect customer data from its website, payment gateway, inventory software, and customer support platform.     ETL का पूरा नाम Extract, Transform, and Load है। हिंदी में इसे डेटा निकालना, रूपांतरित करना और लोड करना कहा जा सकता है। यह एक महत्वपूर्ण डेटा इंटीग्रेशन (Data Integration) प्रक्रिया है, जिसका उपयोग विभिन्न स्रोतों से डेटा एकत्र करके उसे एक समान प्रारूप में बदलने और फिर किसी डेटाबेस, डेटा वेयरहाउस या एनालिटिक्स प्लेटफॉर्म में संग्रहित करने के लिए किया जाता है। ETL का उपयोग मुख्य रूप से बिजनेस इंटेलिजेंस (BI), डेटा वेयरहाउसिंग और डेटा एनालिटिक्स में किया जाता है। बैंकिंग, स्वास्थ्य, शिक्षा, ई-कॉमर्स, उत्पादन और सरकारी संस्थानों जैसी अनेक उद्योगों में ETL की सहायता से बड़े पैमाने पर डेटा को व्यवस्थित और विश्लेषण योग्य बनाया जाता है।

    ETL प्रक्रिया तीन मुख्य चरणों में पूरी होती है। पहला चरण Extract कहलाता है, जिसमें विभिन्न स्रोतों जैसे डेटाबेस, क्लाउड एप्लिकेशन, वेबसाइट, API, स्प्रेडशीट और अन्य सॉफ्टवेयर से डेटा एकत्र किया जाता है। दूसरा चरण Transform होता है, जिसमें प्राप्त डेटा को साफ (Clean), व्यवस्थित (Organize), सत्यापित (Validate) और आवश्यकतानुसार परिवर्तित किया जाता है। इस दौरान डुप्लिकेट रिकॉर्ड हटाए जाते हैं, गलतियों को सुधारा जाता है और डेटा को एक समान प्रारूप में बदला जाता है। तीसरा चरण Load होता है, जिसमें तैयार डेटा को डेटा वेयरहाउस या अन्य संग्रहण प्रणाली में भेजा जाता है ताकि उसका उपयोग रिपोर्ट, डैशबोर्ड और विश्लेषण के लिए किया जा सके।
