Goodbye seemed very uneventful on Saturday as only Rs. 1.35 crores were collected by the day’s end; this amount is too measly for a film of its magnitude and reputation, which does not bode well at all when taken into account other factors- such as how poorly promoted it has been or even if there are enough people talking about it – because until now no one will know how well (or how badly) things will go since only Rs.2.85 crores have been made in collections so far with still another day left to take in money – a number that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon.
Vikram Vedha has flopped but now it’s about how much it can collect during the days it’s playing. In fact, I would argue that Vikram Vedha already got its rating and review from us viewers when the movie premiered at an incredibly low number on Friday night. And yet Saturday brought only a small percentage increase; which caused me to seriously question what this movie had to offer if two weekends couldn’t save its fate. So then my hopes were pinned on Sunday being free from any other blockbuster movies – but even then, nothing happened and we are left with only 2 more weeks for Vikram Vedha to bring in anything close to success at all.
Meanwhile, PS-1 (Hindi) did well on Saturday with box office contribution being Rs. 1.50 crores*. The good part is that it has again gone over the Rs. 1 crore mark, which is fair at least for a film which is playing a few screens and shows. In that aspect the Mani Ratnam directed film is at least showing better occupancy in theaters. However, the overall collections stand at Rs. 16.5 crores*, which could well have been far bigger had they kept the scale intact while making sure to also cater towards an Indian audience of all classes and backgrounds instead of just one or two particular ones. One can only wait until Sunday to see if these changes will pay off though…
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
Note: All collections as per production and distribution sources
