तिल चौथ की व्रत कथा
एक शहर में देवरानी-जेठानी रहती थी। जेठानी अमीर थी और देवरानी गरीब थी। देवरानी गणेश जी की भक्त थी। देवरानी का पति जंगल से लकड़ी काट कर बेचता था और अक्सर बीमार रहता था। देवरानी, जेठानी के घर का सारा काम करती और बदले में जेठानी बचा हुआ खाना, पुराने कपड़े आदि उसको दे देती थी। इसी से देवरानी का परिवार चल रहा था।
माघ महीने में देवरानी ने तिल चौथ का व्रत किया। 5 आने का तिल व गुड़ लाकर तिलकुट्टा बनाया। पूजा करके तिल चौथ की कथा सुनी और तिलकुट्टा छींके में रख दिया और सोचा की चांद उगने पर पहले तिलकुट्टा और उसके बाद ही कुछ खाएगी।

कथा सुनकर वह जेठानी के यहां चली गई। खाना बनाकर जेठानी के बच्चों से खाना खाने को कहा तो बच्चे बोले मां ने व्रत किया हैं और मां भूखी हैं। जब मां खाना खायेगी हम भी तभी खाएंगे। जेठजी को खाना खाने को कहा तो जेठजी बोले ‘मैं अकेला नही खाऊंगा, जब चांद निकलेगा तब सब खाएंगे तभी मैं भी खाऊंगा’ जेठानी ने उसे कहा कि आज तो किसी ने भी अभी तक खाना नहीं खाया तुम्हें कैसे दे दूं? तुम सुबह सवेरे ही बचा हुआ खाना ले जाना।
देवरानी के घर पर पति, बच्चे सब आस लगाए बैठे थे कि आज तो त्योहार हैं इसलिए कुछ पकवान आदि खाने को मिलेगा। परन्तु जब बच्चों को पता चला कि आज तो रोटी भी नहीं मिलेगी तो बच्चे रोने लगे। उसके पति को भी बहुत गुस्सा आया कहने लगा सारा दिन काम करके भी दो रोटी नहीं ला सकती तो काम क्यों करती हो ? पति ने गुस्से में आकर पत्नी को कपड़े धोने के धोवने से मारा। धोवना हाथ से छूट गया तो पाटे से मारा। वह बेचारी गणेश जी को याद करती हुई रोते-रोते पानी पीकर सो गई।

उस दिन गणेश जी देवरानी के सपने में आए और कहने लगे— धोवने मारी, पाटे मारी सो रही है या जाग रही है… .

मुझसे रूठे और देवरानी पर टूटे। जेठानी ने घर और की सफाई करने की बहुत ही कोशिश करी परन्तु गंदगी और ज्यादा फैलती गई। जेठानी के पति को मालूम चला तो वह भी बहुत गुस्सा हुआ और बोला तेरे पास इतना सब कुछ था फिर भी तेरा मन नहीं भरा।
परेशान होकर चौथ के गणेशजी से मदद की विनती करने लगी। गणेश जी ने कहा, देवरानी से जलन के कारण तूने जो किया था यह उसी का फल है। अब तू अपने धन में से आधा उसे दे देगी तभी यह सब साफ होगा…
उसने आधा धन बांट दिया किन्तु मोहरों की एक हांडी चूल्हे के नीचे गाढ़ रखी थी। उसने सोचा किसी को पता नहीं चलेगा और उसने उस धन को नहीं बांटा । उसने कहा ‘हे श्री गणेश जी, अब तो अपना यह बिखराव समेटो, वे बोले, पहले चूल्हे के नीचे गाढ़ी हुई मोहरों की हांडी सहित ताक में रखी दो सुई के भी दो हिस्से कर कर। इस प्रकार ग जानन ने बाल स्वरूप में आकर सुई जैसी छोटी चीज का भी बंटवारा किया और अपनी माया समेटी।
हे गणेश जी महाराज, जैसी आपने देवरानी पर कृपा की वैसी सब पर करना। कहानी कहने वाले, सुनने वाले व हुंकारा भरने वाले सब पर कृपा करना। किन्तु जेठानी को जैसी सजा दी वैसी किसी को मत देना।
Fasting story of til chauth
Sister-in-law and sister-in-law used to live in a city. Sister-in-law was rich and sister-in-law was poor. Devrani was a devotee of Ganesha. If he missed washing, he hit him with a stick. She fell asleep after drinking water while crying remembering Ganesha.

Sister-in-law thought that the food was not given yesterday, that is why perhaps the sister-in-law has felt bad. The children went to call and said, Aunty, come on, mother has called, all the work is done. Devrani replied that now she is not needed. Everything is full in the house with the blessings of Ganesha.
The children went home and told their mother that the whole house of the aunt was shining with diamonds and pearls. Sister-in-law came running to Devrani and asked how did all this happen? Devrani told everything that happened to her.

He distributed half the money but kept a pot of coins buried under the stove. He thought that no one would know and he did not share that money. He said, ‘O Shri Ganesh ji, now collect this scatter of yours,’ he said, first dividing the pot of coins buried under the stove and the two needles kept in the niche into two parts. In this way, Janan came in the form of a child and distributed even a small thing like a needle and collected his illusion.
Oh Ganesh ji Maharaj, do the same to everyone as you showed kindness to the goddess. Bless everyone who tells stories, listens and shouts. But don’t punish anyone like you punished your sister-in-law.
