After waves of the COVID-19 pandemic subsided, people were now able to visit theaters once again in a flourishing fashion. In fact, one major movie starring Alia Bhatt called Gangubai Kathiawadi had managed to make Rs. 100 crore at its box office after opening this past April; ushering in what could potentially be an era of new prosperity for Hollywood.
At the Ideas of India conference hosted by ABP News where I interviewed actor Tapssee Pannu, she stated: I’m happy when my film does well commercially so that others can follow suit. After all, this is only natural given her track record in acting roles such as those from Pink or even recently from latest release Raabta – both films have been immensely successful and critical acclaims alike worldwide. She says: It’s just great because it means there are 10 more female driven films coming up next.
3,000 screens, which is at par with any hero film, should be given to a female protagonist as well, and then you see, why would it not collect numbers like the (hero’s) movie. So, let’s make it a level playing field, she added. Taapsee revealed that her 2019 film Badla which also starred Amitabh Bachchan was released in 900 screens and still earned Rs. 90 crore. I’ve got a lesser number of screens but because I’ve proved my worth during the weekdays; I’m able to even out the score against this new release.
Continuing his discussion of the success of The Kashmir Files, Pannu said, I see the numbers. Regardless of what caused this to happen, one thing is for certain – it did happen. Of course there are some flaws that come with being a newcomer in the industry. Some things are out of my control and I’m okay with that, he continued before stopping for a moment to collect his thoughts.
