The Bollywood industry’s most anticipated film for the year, RRR, is set to release tomorrow but the hype around it has started pouring in. As southern towns have been reporting high occupancy rates- making sure they will set a new record- Maharashtra and Delhi regions can be seen waiting on booking tickets all day long. Clocks record preliminary sales worth approximately 4 million rupees (estimated) over the first weekend at theaters across India.
Such anticipation bodes well – with opening day sales expected to break previous records and send forecasts soaring into 12-14 million rupees range; or even higher if audiences give us a thumbs up! After all, who could blame them? Rajamouli had never before let his audience down– he hasn’t failed as both writer and director; thus his amazing efforts are now being noticed outside of Tollywood too!
Multiplex cinemas have been doing fairly well since they’ve released the movie, and while some single screens are catching on too – this will only increase revenue for the film. It seems like RRR has set a price point that’s slightly higher than usual though, which may hinder future profits as people don’t seem keen on shelling out extra money after seeing 83 or Spiderman. Now, it’s depending entirely on word of mouth whether or not this film succeeds because it doesn’t seem anyone is willing to pay these exorbitant prices.
A higher price point might have attracted a larger number of viewers, but the lower cost means people will wait until they hear what other fans think before they invest in something so expensive. If all the reviews are as great as expected, this movie could make at least twice what it makes on opening day, because it has such a huge opportunity to become an international sensation.
With the director taking over Hollywood after Baahubali – everyone is going to want to watch this movie! But for now, RRR only had about Â¥13 million or about $185 thousand USD from Thursday-Friday’s ticket sales and revenue projections show that there may be changes in revenue based on how much audiences come back throughout Saturday and Sunday (the film just opened).
