Ranbir Kapoor’s much–awaited film, Shamshera, has unfortunately crashed at the box office on Monday. Estimates show that the film’s collections have dropped a whopping 70 percent. Its four-day total has come down to around Rs. 3 crores, with a range of Rs. 2.75 to Rs. 3.20 crores. All these figures only point towards a crash in its business, leaving the film far behind expectations.
Karan Malhotra’s movie can officially be declared a disaster now that its lifetime total is expected to be less than Rs. 45 crores. The movie was initially released in 4,300 theaters across the country, however by the fourth day the number of shows has decreased by more than half, proving that it has been largely rejected by the public. The trend is likely to be downward and Shamshera will likely be replaced by Ek Villain Returns in most cinema halls by the second Friday.
The iconic banner Yash Raj Films, will incur some losses in relation to Shamshera, even though they’ve secured considerable backend deals from satellite and digital networks. This failure of Shamshera has left the Hindi Film Industry startled, thus, inspiring all the top production companies to rethink the viability of film–making. In the aftermath of Shamshera and Samrat Prithviraj’s dismal performance, multiple period–films have been cancelled, and many more await their own destiny of shelving.
The box office disaster of Shamshera has raised a red flag in both Dharma Productions and Disney’s camps, and has led to much trepidation about the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor movie, Brahmastra.
