If the URL of your website changes, the search engine would consider it as a completely new page and as a result of this, your ranking would suffer. When it checks the previously ranked pages, it gets a ‘404 page not found’ error and assumes that the pages are dead.

    Using ‘301 redirects’ is considered one of the most efficient ways of preserving SEO juice. This tells the requesting algorithm, usually a search engine crawler, that the URL has been permanently moved to another URL. When the search engine comes across this type of redirect, it takes the SEO juice assigned to the first link and assigns it to the new URL.
