Ah, how great is the ponytail? It does not matter if you’re looking for an everyday style or something more formal. Ponytails are such a flexible hairstyle and can work well with so many different outfits; from casual to formal events! They are also quite easy and quick to do, which makes them perfect for those of us who don’t always have time to worry about their hair. One little detail that I find really attractive about these ponytails – it doesn’t matter what shape your face is because it’ll fit right in. All women should know at least one type of classic ponytail they can play around with on any occasion they might need it.
1 – Short Ponytail
Who says you can’t have a ponytail with short hair? Granted, if your hair falls just under the nape of your neck, then you’ll need to put up a low pony instead. However, if you’re looking for something sexy and not silly, I suggest sprucing up your mane with some texture-enhancing tools to give it volume and thickness. In this situation, a messy do is far superior to sleekly pulled back ‘do—it’s about alluring femininity over perfectly polished severity. And who doesn’t love adding some bangs too? It distracts from the fact that the hair at chin level or shorter isn’t going to be long enough for anything other than a side sweep or half updo!
2 – Long Ponytail
If you have thick, beautiful hair then lucky you! Ponytails are generally designed for longer, smoother locks. You can use this to your advantage and try out many different styles with a ponytail. If you have straight hair, opt for sleek low ponytails when going out; perfect for wearing at an elegant event. Curl or add waves to thin hair like mine so it cascades down the back in an effortless manner – this will give me a bouncy look.
Finally, if you’re someone who has thinner-than-average but long strands of gorgeous blonde locks, I recommend opting for low ponies instead of high ones as they tend to pull on my hair which may lead to breakage down the road. Hair extensions are also helpful; they add volume and weightlessness even though they’re not real!
3 – Low Ponytail
This is one of the best hairstyles for those with natural, straight hair. By combing your hair back and tying it low at the nape of your neck, you create a sleek ponytail that has many professional benefits – which makes it perfect to wear when going to work! This style also works well on thinning or fragile strands because they won’t be put under any stress during styling. The low ponytail suits women who have oval or heart-shaped faces very well; if you are someone with a rounder face shape, then I recommend trying out some soft fringe like curtains or side bangs so as not to overwhelm yourself. You can choose either a part down the middle or the side – whichever suits you!
4 – High Ponytail
The high ponytail has been around for decades now, and continues to be one of the most popular hairstyles today. So why not try it? Not only is it cute and stylish, but it’s also easy to maintain. You can wear your hair in a high ponytail while you run errands, work out at the gym, go on a date – anything really! However, if you have finer or thinning hair don’t fret. To avoid having an elastic slippage problem simply pre-treat your locks with some texturizing spray or dry shampoo; then create your masterpiece! This will give off a slightly disheveled yet sophisticated vibe – perfect for almost every occasion.
5 – Side Ponytail
A stylish side ponytail can be achieved if done correctly. The key to this hairstyle is making sure the height of your ponytail reaches just up to the base of your neck or higher. If it’s too high, keep it low! One thing I love about a side pony tail is that there are lots of styles available! Personally, I prefer a really textured wave with lots of texture so I always add some sea salt spray before creating my natural but teased low ponytail which gives me a soft and feminine look.
One downside however, is that these types of hairstyles suit people who have thicker hair rather than thin hair so if you’re one of those people who has thin hair then stick with a sleek looking side-ponytail! For anyone aiming for such an updo, remember to use plenty of product like gel or pomade which will set your hair back away from your face and wear the pigtails lower down by the sides of your neck.
6 – Braided Ponytail
To dress up your ponytail a bit more, try braiding the length of your ponytail. If you’re going for a casual summer feel or on an evening date with someone special; use this technique to make the braid go all around the back of your head. This will also create waves which are sexy yet sophisticated. Or if you want something that’ll go well at work without being too extravagant; tie up your bun/ponytail tight with a scrunchee, then create another small one off to one side near where it starts (next to either ear).
7 – Braided Ponytail For Black Hair
You could try this hairstyle by braiding your gorgeous type 4 hair or wearing your protective braids in a ponytail. If you’re trying to wear a ponytail with an Afro, I recommend using lots of styling gel intended for black woman’s curly locks – which will keep it slicked back and frizz free!
8 – Crochet Ponytail
This style is achieved with crochet extensions, which makes it one of the most popular hairstyles for black hair. It also makes it ideal if you are lacking in length or volume. With this style, a crochet needle would be used to create two braids – one containing your real strands and the other containing synthetic ones- and each braid would then be secured around the base of your head so that they form a ponytail at the top (with both braiding techniques).
9 – Bangs And Ponytail
If you’re apprehensive about ponytails due to the way it draws attention to your big forehead or rounder face, I recommend adding bangs. You can either opt for full, straight-across bangs if you have a large forehead and thin, wispy ones if you have a round face to make it appear more oval and also thinner.
10 – Curly Ponytail
To get a perfect curly ponytail, one needs to go through the process of detangling and defrizzing their curls beforehand or else there will be no way for it to end up looking anything remotely nice.
11 – Retro Ponytail Style (50s Ponytail)
This ponytail will give you a cute, retro vibe. In order to do it, you’ll need to add natural waves to your hair first. Curl the front of your bangs and place them on the side of your head while letting the back drop down naturally without touching it. If you don’t have fringes but want to mimic that look – just curl one side of your hair and then pin it up so it looks like fringes are sticking out from behind.
12 – Messy Waves Ponytail
A messy waves ponytail is perfect for the party or brunch. For this hairstyle you will need to bring all your hair up into a high ponytail, then tease it carefully to make loose waves at the ends. This look would work well if you have thin hair as it gives the appearance of volume without any added effort. If you’d like an easy way to finish this style off – just throw some pieces over your forehead and let them fall naturally along your face.
13 – Half Up Half Down Ponytail
This hairstyle is very popular among teenage girls and adults alike. Here you take only the front and side sections of hair (leaving the back sections hanging) and tie them in a ponytail, leaving the rest of your locks hanging loosely to frame your face.
14 – High and Sleek Ponytail
This hairstyle has become one of pop star Ariana Grande’s trademarked looks and is favored by many who imitate her. To achieve this stylish look, slicked-back hair must be tied up high with either gel or pomade to hold it in place. This style best suits straight and long hair.
15 – Crimped Ponytail
A crimped ponytail can either be a high ponytail or a low ponylet. Crimping gives your everyday hair an upgrade to something nicer than the usual style of having all your hair pulled back in one tight, unyielding braid. To get this look all you have to do is put some texture into your long strands with a professional tool like a crimper and then tie it back again with elastic bands – if you want to only crimp part of it instead of the whole thing go ahead!
16 – Cascading Ponytail
This one is an amazing prom hair style for girls and it is also perfect for weddings. All you need to do is make your hair into a high ponytail, then curl the ends.
17 – Futuristic and Flirty Ponytail
If you’re looking to make a statement, you could accessorize your sleek and high ponytail with some metal jewelry to create an edgy futuristic look.
18 – Bubble Ponytail
It’s time for all Jasminites to rejoice! This hairstyle is inspired by our favorite Disney princess. You’ll start off with a regular high ponytail. Place the hair tie around 1/4 of an inch away from the scrunchy above your head, and place it on top of another hair tie after about three quarters of the way down your tresses (not underneath).
19 – Ponytail With Dutch Braid
This is one of my favorite hairdos for really long hair. To get this look, split your hair into four sections and then braid the two side sections into Dutch braids or French braids – I personally prefer Dutch because it looks way better with my face shape! Then backcomb the top section to create an epic beehive ‘do. After that, grab all the four strands in your hands and tie them up at the top of a high ponytail. Finish it off by adding some loose waves or curls to give it texture. When I wear this haircut, I usually go out somewhere fancy such as weddings or dinner parties.
20 – Pony With Textured Braid
Braiding your hair in the style of a Viking also called the Viking braid, will give you an edgy look. Add cornrows or regular braids on either side to create a mohawk at the front for extra effect. Secure all your hair in one ponytail at the top of your head and then use hairspray to fix it in place.
21 – 80s Ponytail
Nostalgia is the taste for today’s generation! With hairstyles and fashion. So get those colourful hair elastics and tie up your hair in a high ponytail to recreate the 80s look. I would recommend going with something modest like Hailey Baldwin’s look here but if you’re feeling adventurous go for an off-centered ponytail which was one of the trademarks of this era.
22 – Drawstring Ponytail
Want the fashionable ponytail styles for black females that are showcased here? If you have fine hair or hair too thin to braid, don’t fret! You just need one of these extensions. Start by tying a simple ponytail, then wrap this extension around your own locks and you’re all set.
23 – Formal Ponytail
Sleek, low, and practical – this formal ponytail can be accessorized with bows or bobby pins. You could also use your own hair strand wrapped around the hair tie to hide it from view.
24 – Two Ponytails
Currently, one of the most popular hairstyles for women with a girly and youthful feel is the two pony look. In order to pull this off your hair should be voluminous at the base of your head with light waves and curls throughout. If done correctly these two pieces will frame the lower half of your face beautifully while adding a hint of flirtatious charm.
25 – Reverse French Braid Ponytail
Why make your hair routine boring and predictable? Have some fun with it with a Braided Ponytail! What was once just an ordinary ponytail becomes much more when you add this special look to the back section of hair. This can create amazing looks for any type of personal style, from being simple to sexy or classy. It doesn’t matter if your hairstyle is short or long – there are plenty of possibilities for different styles. And the best part about this trick is that you can accessorize it too! With bows, scrunchies, clips, adornments – the sky’s the limit to what you might want to try out next.
