Finally, there is a movie which sees better collections on the second day than it does on the first. This is true for all movies but especially true for those who need to hold onto what little hope they have left. In order to do this, even sustainability is praised and progress means something remarkable and worth celebrating – unlike other times when it would have been nothing but respectable.
Despite this, one cannot dismiss the 35% growth which came in from just Rs. 2 crore nett proceeds of Indian Day II collection from Friday-Saturday; even though it should’ve been much higher by now (the figure was only 3 crores). When you take these numbers into account with how desperate every studio has become for people’s attention in these dire financial straits, then coming close to crossing 5 crores nett isn’t too shabby either! Parivaar seems set to gross over 6 or 7 crores nett before Tuesday evening rolls around – if its momentum carries forward until then…
Kantara (Hindi) continues to make good business as we near the end of its run, as has been shown in the past three weeks too. From Rs. 2.10 crores on Friday, Kantara (Hindi) made a leap forward Saturday, netting Rs. 4.15 crores – a truly commendable figure for such an old film! For those who forget, this is the fourth week it’s been out – even if Bollywood were able to manage these sorts of sales now, how could they keep up? But what makes me optimistic about this movie is that audiences are only starting to buy tickets now – and if it takes off, who knows how much more money will come from Bengal cinema!
