1. Bhanu Athaiya:
Have you heard about Bhanu Athaiya? This Indian woman has a special place in film history- she is the first Indian to win an Oscar. Bhanu has been active in the industry for many years, starting from when she made costumes for Gandhi back in 1982. Her work speaks volumes- she has given her creative touch to over 100 movies and collaborated with esteemed actors such as Yash Chopra, Raj Kapoor, Vijay Anand, Guru Dutt and more. She was recognized nationally too- winning awards for films like Lagaan among others. And don’t forget that this woman managed to collaborate internationally after winning the Oscars (she designed costumes for Richard Attenborough). As if that wasn’t enough achievements already, this amazing lady even taught at National Institute of Fashion Technology after her success!
2. Satyajit Ray:
Satyajit Ray is among the most celebrated filmmakers in history. With his power when it came to filmmaking, he garnered several accolades from countries all around the world, including winning an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1992 despite being too sick to attend the ceremony himself. On top of that, international leaders alike have considered his work so masterful they’ve awarded him with prestigious awards. 3. Resul Pookutty:
Another Indian who brought Oscar to the country was Resul Pookutty. He tasted the success of Slumdog Millionaire, an internationally recognised film that was also nominated for best pictures during the 81st Academy Awards. 4. A R Rahman:
AR Rahman is an iconic composer who has created some of the most memorable tunes in India. Popularly known as Gulzar Sahab, Gulzar is noted for his prolific works as a lyricist. He is an artist in every sense of the word – being writer, poet and film director. It was no surprise then when he came up victorious at the 81st Academy Awards, which are only one of many international awards he has collected throughout his career – earning him plenty of accolades from big name institutions like Filmfare Awards, Grammy Awards and National Film Competition among others.
