After weeks of buzz and anticipation, Vijay Deverakonda’s much–awaited action–packed drama Liger released in theaters this week. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film had a soft opening at home but began on a good footing abroad, particularly in North America. Nevertheless, it was not meant to be as collections took a hit on its second day there.
Liger’s business had seen a massive dip after reaching USD 500K on the first day of its release. On the second day, it only managed to rake in USD 88,388 [Rs. 66.67 lakhs] from 347 screens across the United States of America; this accounts for an 81% drop compared to the first–day earnings at U.S.A box office. Canada reported even more disastrous figures, with 19 screens generating a total collection of USD 8,734 [Rs. 6.98 lakhs], reflecting a 61% plunge from Day 1. With these dwindling figures at hand, Liger was able to make an overall earning of USD 597,054 [Rs 4.77 cr.] in North America at the conclusion of its second–day screening period.
On its opening day, Liger saw a marginal 18% growth in collections; however, it seems the negative reviews of the film has had an adverse effect on its success. The industry is cautiously optimistic about the upcoming weekend performance and is hopeful that the movie will be able to see increasing numbers as more viewers visit theatres. Nevertheless, it is sure to be an uphill task for the movie at the box office.
