Yesterday saw the highly–anticipated debut of the Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday collaboration, Liger, in cinemas. Early signs from international markets indicated that it had started off on a positive footing; however, reports for day two’s box office figures seem to have dampened any enthusiasm, with certain areas even experiencing a decrease in ticket sales.
Liger saw a massive dip in their overseas business in Australia, falling by an alarming 61.74% and bringing in just USD 21,961 [Rs. 17.55 lakhs] across 60 screens on its second day compared to its first day performance. In New Zealand however, the situation was far more positive with a 38.28% increase reported, raising USD 4,573 [Rs. 3.65 lakhs] from 22 screens on the film’s second day.
Despite some unfavorable reviews and negative word of mouth, business for Liger in overseas markets still saw a modest uptick on its second day. Industry forecasts indicate that, with minimal competition, it can expect to continue increasing collections over the course of the weekend.
