After a gap of four years, Aamir Khan surely would have been expecting a more favorable outcome for his dramatic venture, Laal Singh Chaddha. Preliminary estimates suggest that the Advait Chandan–directed movie garnered revenues in the vicinity of Rs. 11.00 to 12.50 crores. It was an extremely lacklustre performance across all regions with the only redeeming factor being the nation–wide multiplex chains.
The opening is worse than the Kabir Khan directorial, 83, and the Farhad Samji film, Bachchhan Paandey, which speaks volumes of how much it underperformed on the opening day. The performance in mass belts was dismissal, to say the least, and given the film reports, we don’t anticipate Laal Singh Chaddha to do any sort of business outside the metros.
Laal Singh Chaddha’s debut has caused shockwaves to ripple through the Hindi film industry, forcing everyone to take a step back and readjust their plans. Generally, an Aamir Khan movie would make at least fifteen crore on its opening weekend. The result of this one, however, is a loud and resounding message from the viewers: make sure that you create quality content worthy of the big screen.
The trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha garnered widespread criticism, which was then followed by an ill–conceived marketing campaign, resulting in little to no pre-release hype and an abysmal start. With a week-long holiday season, Laal Singh Chaddha still has a glimmer of hope to produce respectable figures, however the debut has extinguished any chances of it producing staggering box office numbers.
