The much–awaited release of 2022, Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan, commenced its advance booking on Friday, but after 5 days, the film has yet to take off. As per our tracking, approximately 30,000 tickets have been sold in the three major cinema chains, PVR, Inox and Cinepolis, as of Wednesday morning (T-1). In terms of India–wide ticket sales, Laal Singh Chaddha has accumulated an estimated 57,000 tickets for its opening day. However, it appears that the buzz around the movie has yet to create any momentum in terms of ticket sales.
When contrasted to the opening–day T-1 collections of other films, Laal Singh Chaddha sold 50 percent less tickets than Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 featuring Kartik Aaryan and was in–line with Varun Dhawan’s Jug Jugg Jeeyo in national multiplex chains. Specifically, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 recorded an impressive 1.05 lakh ticket sales, whereas Jug Jugg Jeeyo achieved 57,000 ticket sales on the first day. Given these numbers, it is predicted that the Kartik Aaryan starrer will remain at the top of the list for advance bookings across national chains in 2022.
The final day of advance ticket sales for films typically brings a surge in numbers, and Bollywood Hungama is expecting the sales for Laal Singh Chaddha to hit approximately 62,000 at the three major chains in India and about 1.10 lakh overall. This result is only a 5% improvement over Jug Jugg Jeeyo and a 45% decrease in comparison to the Kartik Aaryan-led horror comedy. There is little to no pre–booking happening in places outside the three national chains, as Raksha Bandhan, being the smaller movie of the two, is taking the lead in certain areas.
The destiny of Laal Singh Chaddha is dependent on its success among those who show up on the spot. In reality, the pre-sales of tickets have been far lower than desired, even for a major holiday release. Were it not a holiday, it is estimated that ticket sales in three major chains may not have reached even 50,000. If walk-in sales are insufficient, the industry may be in for a devastating surprise come August 11th.
