Only a small number of Indian movies ever make it to the 300 Crore Club. In fact, there are fewer than ten movies that have done so successfully and they all have something in common – they had a budget of around $100-200 million USD each. This movie, The Kashmir Files, was made with just $15 million USD making its chances very high for earning entry into this exclusive club.
To think that such an inexpensive movie (given India’s standards) can earn over $250 million USD is unheard of! It might not even be fair for us to call this movie just a hit because we’re looking at crossing the threshold between hit and blockbuster. A new term may need to be created from those terms.
The film did fairly well on Monday, drawing in a whopping Rs. 12.40 crores*- but frankly speaking this is lower than what we were expecting it to reach. It needs some stability now if it wants to make the most out of its release period because once Wednesday rolls around and RRR comes out (a heavily hyped movie), then things are going to change drastically.
In the meantime, Bachchhan Padesh wasn’t doing too well either; by Monday, the production had managed an unimpressive collection of only Rs. 4 crores*, which seemed pretty bleak when compared to Sunday’s collection- who saw a decrease instead of an increase for footfall rates. But that being said, things really aren’t looking too great – with just days left before India celebrates Eidul Fitr- experts believe that Besharam might’ve been lucky enough to barely rake up as much as 70 crores*.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
