It was a decent start for the dubbed Hindi version of Kantara, bringing in 27 lakh rupees. Until now, nobody would have given this film much of a chance due to it not being advertised like Vikrant Rona or 777 Charlie (which are popular films). Indeed, it did not even have promotional events or trailers before its release. However, people became more aware during the lead up time before the movie released when they saw posters around town and cinemas playing ads on TV/YouTube (or other forms).
The movie has seen an adequate number of people coming to watch it and now it’s all about what will happen this weekend. The reviews for the movie have been greatly received because this is, after all, a blockbuster in Kannada and the content has been well-received. However, the difference between Kantara and other recent movies such as Pushpa, which also had a rural setting (as opposed to being heavy on the action-drama side), is that Kantara doesn’t cross into masala territory just like Pushpa did – but there is a big difference when you compare them: while pushpa boasted catchy chartbuster music that became popular very quickly after its release; kantara relies mostly on regionally set storytelling.
A couple of weeks ago when a much bigger film PS-1 released in Hindi, it had brought in ₹ 1.85 crores on the opening day and would now close in the range of ₹ 23 crores. In comparison; it’s a decent enough start for Kantara (Hindi) and if it indeed manages to close in ₹ 15-20 crores range then it would be a good enough result for the film.
