Post-pandemic, something that has been happening rather strongly is that at least 90% of films – be upstanding or terrible – are opening way below expectations. Regardless of the merit one might see it as having, the film will open around 50%-70% less than it should’ve. And in this situation; it’s time to start re-evaluating our own personal expectations too. But, hey! At least until everything returns to a sense of normality again; which might well take another six months minimum anyway.
The reason behind this is because even though the budget and promotion of Phone Bhoot would have warranted an opening more than Rs. 4-5 crores by 2019, but its start of Rs. 2.05 crores needs to be seen in a similar perspective since that isn’t nearly as low as the budgets were for films about two years ago during production either. However now it’s necessary for the movie industry to revisit their plans so everything falls back into place again; which isn’t really what we’re seeing right now given how close estimates are to its initial numbers.
It opens at a time when they still don’t know if future movies will do well or not due to lack of information considering all possible outcomes – however, while cinema goers are entertained they may succeed in growing over time yet again thanks to having set a foundation from where it could grow yet again provided nothing goes wrong further down the line just yet.
It is already assured that Kantara will continue growing; this being the trend seen during the last three consecutive weekends. On top of Friday’s impressive take, which was a mere Rs. 2.10 crores, its grand total now stands at 53.75 crores! A rarity in South cinema where dubbing also proved profitable and brought great success for both versions – It would not be surprising if Kantara made it to a lifetime worth of about 70 crores and even surpasses 75 crores!
