Film producer and actor Akshay Kumar who is popularly known for films such as Rowdy Rathore and Gabbar Is Back made a comeback to his childhood love- acting, with Bell Bottom. Just 18 months after he released Good News, he finally came back with an intense thrill of action scenes in the very first movie produced under his company called Akshayn Entertainment. The film had opened its way out on 1,500 Indian screens but was limited due to lack of resources when Covid 19 first began affecting production capabilities. It experienced great success even though night showings were prohibited by most state authorities for now; showing profits ranging from RS. 2.75 – Rs 3.25 crore according to its preliminary estimate at the moment.
The box office intake so far has been marginally better than Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s recent film, Roohi, which brought in Rs. 3.06 crores on its first day. Despite this opening being lower than previous films by director Imtiaz Ali- Tiger Zinda Hai (made 4 times that amount) or Jab Harry Met Sejal (which made almost double what John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi achieved)- there is cause for optimism among those who have seen the first two days of Bell Bottom promotions.
There was also a similar success story seen recently when actor Dhanush- an artist most famous for his work in Tamil cinema- managed to break records with his Hindi debut last year thanks to audiences from outside Maharashtra finally deciding to give Hindi films more of a chance at home.
Bell Bottom is the first Bollywood film since the second round of the Pandemic. The government pins its hope on this film to set the wheel rolling again in order to restore decent profits and offer hope for unemployed actors who need money just so that they can survive. Overly optimistic predictions suggest this will open at Rs.3 crores which would lead to an additional 4-day weekend worth about 50 crores which amounts to about 70 crores combined, exceeding what filmmakers were getting before – even without budget cuts being required anymore because people don’t want movies made at all anymore. All these give people high expectations for Bell Bottom; it’s directed by Ranjit Tewari and produced by Pooja Entertainment (owned by Bhagnani family).
