After a long wait due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Akshay Kumar’s blockbuster Sooryavanshi released. Initially projected as just another Bollywood movie, but after it released, people noticed how special this film was. It was the first major release since Covid-19 had taken over everything; despite this most projections were that the movie would make its way onto the box office charts right away and live up to its hype – which it did. Early screenings experienced some difficulty garnering audiences early in the day but then later on when showtimes were close at hand they became flooded with eager viewers who didn’t let Covid-19 affect their lives so much as to make them stay home from seeing this amazing movie.
Besides these factors, Sooryavanshi also received good reviews from critics and positive word of mouth from the audience that has greatly helped the film’s business. In fact, the film is being hailed as a perfect masala entertainer for this festival season of Diwali. Talking about collections, Sooryavanshi recorded higher opening day collections at PVR chain of cinemas till 4 pm which are higher than most pre-pandemic films. Interestingly enough, if the issue had been settled earlier and the preview showings were open already – then even more money would have come in due to people buying advanced tickets instead.
The first day estimates for the movie were Rs. 20 to 25 crores but with the increased demand and higher footfall rates, it can’t be too farfetched to say that this film will make at least Rs.25 crores on just its first day, while there are predictions stating that if things continue as they are, then it is more than likely going to surpass Akshay Kumar’s previous release Mission Mangal which opened at Rs. 29 16 crores during prime time pandemic days when he was in his prime years, thus making his all-time highest grossing opening day collection ever.
