Jersey followed in descending tailspin as there was yet another drop on Wednesday and the collections were down by 15% when compared to Tuesday. The first week numbers totaled to approximately Rs. 18.96 crores with Wednesday bringing in an estimated amount of Rs. 1.15 to 1.18 crores, which means that it is now approaching a disappointing total of around rs. 20 crore at the end of its run.
There are various reasons for this film’s poor performance; including the current release timing or even deferred release because viewers could see this movie earlier than they would have been able to see it if it had come out originally in Hindi language – both probably played a part in why this film failed so miserably at the box office.
Jersey’s lifetime collections would be close to the Day 1 earnings of Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh at Rs. 20.21 crores. To know what that means, we need to take a look at how it compares with other films in his repertoire such as Rangoon (Rs. 20.68 crores) and Chance Pe Dance (Rs. 20.62 crores). What needs to be taken into account is that after being removed from most cinemas nationwide on September 7th, Jersey will only last until its final screenings on September 11th before closing altogether and being replaced by two new releases; Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 along with Rakul Preet Sharma and Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 alongside Tara Sutaria. In this regard the distributor share will likely stay below 10%.
