The Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam opened in China not too long ago, but this time – like every other Indian movie screened there – the reception was lackluster. While openings for other films were pretty good, tickets for Drishyam remained poor; until it became apparent people didn’t want to see anything else despite already taking shots of an influenza epidemic and air pollution.
After opening at a sluggish pace that featured only $1 lakh after one day, these numbers had still risen significantly with $1.4 lakh on its second day. A rise indeed when compared to the amount they brought in after merely one week when they barely reached Rs 1 crore (Rs 8 cr). But we don’t have many facts about what caused such underwhelming numbers; all except for blaming an outbreak of COVID-19 which led most parents back into quarantine over the weekend because apparently it’s such big news that everybody needs to know about?
