Through at least 11 days of running time, RRR had earned just short of Rs. 190 crore in the North Indian market by today (Sunday), taking a significant chunk from ‘Sooryavanshi’. With each passing day, it crossed many milestones enroute to becoming the second highest-grossing film this year – crossing one record after another within six months and celebrating Baahubali’s prequel glory which made it richer than any other blockbuster ever could hope to be.
In Haryana and Uttar Pradesh alone, over 50% population is Muslims with Eid holidays around; meaning Muslims do not come out for entertainment activities such as watching films during these times leading up to Eid Al-Fitr festival unlike they would when Eid Al-Adha arrives or even Ramadan itself if they were living in Arab countries.
The movie has now eclipsed the total collections of The Kashmir Files to become the highest grossing film of pandemic and despite the fact that only a few more days remain before it ends, its trending upward shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. This leaves RRR as director SS Rajamouli’s second consecutive 200 crore earner in India after Baahubali 2; which, coming from an actor-director combo that didn’t include either Akshay Kumar or Shahrukh Khan on their roster until this point, speaks volumes about his ability as an artist.
Crowds and critics alike have been receptive to his work since day one – whether they’re trying to snatch up tickets while they’re still available at theaters near them or picking them up from internet streaming services when they’ve had some free time – but it won’t come as much of a surprise if he manages to steal away all eyes from other movies due out next year too.
