After collecting Rs. 5 lakhs (less than $8,600) on Friday and 7-10 lakhs (less than $15,000) every day thereafter on its opening weekend, the new movie Antim: The Final Truth finally registered an increase in revenue towards the end of Sunday with collections nearing up to close to 50% higher than it had collected yesterday. This climb is largely attributed to Salman Khan’s starring role as he injects life into Aayush Sharma’s tired attempt at portraying a gangster.
Though he may not be one himself–all he can do is play the figure tying together these loose ends in an otherwise sad looking string–his sheer presence alone breathed life into many things that were dying including skyrocketing ticket sales for this humdrum production filmed mostly for less than 2 crores or around 20 million dollars.
After tracking the box office performance of Antim: The Final Truth we see this is an interesting film that could go either way. With successful openings over the weekend, it appears audience members found much to like about this movie and didn’t think it was bad. But with such few performances taking place in other regions where they don’t speak Hindi or Marathi languages, there isn’t much chance of this movie attracting attention outside those markets unless next week brings a clear sign things have gone well.
These kind of films typically take home at least half their earnings during the first three days and if projections prove correct, most distributors will come out ahead financially even if they play conservatively until Thursday night comes along.
