Early estimates say that Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior had a strong hold when it came to collections on Monday, collecting between Rs. 11.5-13.5 crores (between $1.8-$2.3 million USD) over the four days since its release; according to reports from nationwide chains such as PVR, INOX, Cinepolis and Carnival Cinema which are still neck in neck with Saturday’s numbers for film revenue.
This latest action film featuring Ajay Devgn, directed by Om Raut is on track to break box office records and it’s looking very likely that it will reach the 100 crore benchmark during its opening week of release. Ticket prices have dropped to weekday rates across theaters in this region, which means that Monday footfalls are higher than Fridays.
Centers like Mumbai, Pune and the Interior regions of Maharashtra continue to lead the way with good numbers but other areas like Delhi – NCR, Bihar and Rajasthan also show stable results at Friday levels. Gujarat shows almost no change from Friday numbers whereas other circuits show less performance since the film was released yesterday.
Another Friday brought an eagerly anticipated movie, but the widespread hype failed to boost attendance figures. Titled Chhapaak, Deepika Padukone’s latest film collected about 2 million rupees (Rs) on Monday after just four days in theaters – declining over 38%. In a single day revenue plunged by over 90%, and revenue on Saturday fell 70% compared to Friday. The drops make sense as last week’s hit Dilwale disappointingly suffered significant cuts during this past weekend too.
On account of bad timing coupled with low-quality content, Chhapaak has been rejected by audiences nationwide; but it seems like producers want everyone to believe that people voted against the film simply because they were trying to attack Padukone due her recent activity at the JNU campus – which is frankly not what happened. Judging by how poorly Sunday fared compared to Sunday one week ago, it doesn’t seem likely that the movie will produce significant results this coming Wednesday when most schools are closed
