On its release, Panga had opened low [Rs. 2.70 crores] and then showed very good growth on Saturday followed by a good Sunday, hence resulting in an opening weekend of Rs. 14.91 crores. Now Thappad opened slightly better [Rs. 3.07 crores], though Saturday growth was relatively lesser. However, Sunday did turn out to better with Rs. 6.54 crores coming in. As a result, the opening weekend is now Rs. 14.66 crores which is in a range similar to that of Panga, though a bit lesser than that.
If it wants to reach the lifetime total of Panga [Rs. 28.92 crores], the movie needs to sustain its stability over the forthcoming weeks. As indicated by the weekend trends, it has the capability to attain this mark, yet, a hard obstacle awaits in the shape of Baaghi 3. Featuring Tiger Shroff and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the movie is all set to release on 6th March, thereby posing a major threat to the already running films. In addition, the number of its screens would be greater than that of Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, thus making it the largest release of the year.
On the other hand, the competition between Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Malang is in full swing. Despite the two films being from entirely different genres and having dissimilar themes, Malang is now coming to an end of its box office run with an accumulated collection of 60 crores*. It managed to earn Rs. 1 crore* more in the opening weekend. On the other hand, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan registered a sum of Rs. 4.06 crores more on Sunday and the total box office collection for the movie stands at Rs. 54.23 crores*. This competition between the two movies has been a riveting battle.
Despite there being a deficit of about 4 crores between the two films, it is believed that the movie featuring Ayushmann Khurranna would eventually bridge the gap in the coming days.
