Angrezi Medium made a dismal performance over the weekend. Its opening collection was no more than Rs. 9 crore. This is very much below what would be expected of it – Rs. 20-22 crores would have been ideal to start off with, given its content and appeal to audiences who would enjoy the story line. But, because of lack of viewers due to fear from the Corona Virus in Delhi and shutting down theaters in Mumbai after some cases were reported there, this wasn’t possible for Angrezi Medium as well. Now many other cities are also joining in – such as Chennai – to shut down theaters temporarily due to safety concerns over people coming out when they are not completely cured yet from their illness; so now we can see how things play out for Arjun Reddy too!
Compared to Hindi Medium, Angrezi Medium has higher production costs since it shot in both India and London. However, its box office earnings are limited due to release restrictions placed by UK distributors who do not want Indian films shown. These hindering conditions led to a severe decrease in public interest for the film upon release-shooting only Rs. 9 crore vs nearly double that amount two years ago (Rs. 18 crore).
But producers hope that the renewed interest generated during May’s deadliest flu outbreak will allow them to regain some audience attention before summer season hits with a long list of Hollywood blockbusters. With little opportunity left before their July 15th debut date, they must make every second count or risk losing people’s interest all over again– possibly never recovering from lost opportunities they experienced last month while desperately trying to appeal filmmakers around the world.[1]
