Ayushmann Khurrana’s Anek has shown a sluggish trend at the box office in its opening weekend. After collecting Rs 2.11 crore on Friday, the movie jumped to Rs. 2.30 crores on Saturday to take the two day total to Rs. 4.40 crores, but what followed was unexpected – a drastic fall in numbers during Sunday’s screenings. Early estimates say that it had collected between 1,950 and 2,150 rupees from audiences during its second release for an estimated final tally of 6,500 rupees overall for four days of screening; this falls short of crossing 15 thousand rupees mark which is considered the benchmark for success in Indian cinema today.
The smaller content-driven movies weren’t doing well in theaters and Anek joined the club. The movie fared okay for most of Sunday before seeing a sharp decrease come post 7 PM showings. The decrease was likely due to the Royal Indian Premier League (IPL) finals, so it’s possible this figure may be lower than expected based on these estimations. Showings from 7:30 PM onwards – all concluding around 9 PM – saw a major dip in audiences; further proving that interest had dwindled towards the later parts of the night.
