Mohit Suri’s eagerly awaited sequel to the 2014 blockbuster Ek Villain, Ek Villain Returns, was released to the public on Friday, with Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria headlining the movie. Music from the movie has already been popular with audiences, being heard in almost every place. Its opening day at the box office has been highly successful with the movie garnering Rs. 7.05 cr. The movie has also seen a slight increase in its business on its second day of release.
In this box office report, we examine the opening Saturday takings of Ek Villain Returns in comparison to other movies released in 2022. Grossing a total of Rs. 7.47 cr, Ek Villain Returns ranks tenth among the highest first Saturday grossers of the year. In spite of the tremendous promotion that the Mohit Suri directorial enjoyed, its figures were still no match for those of KGF – Chapter 2 ( Rs. 42.90 cr ), RRR ( Rs. 24 cr ), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 ( Rs. 18.34 cr ), Gangubai Kathiawadi ( Rs. 13.32 cr ), Samrat Prithviraj ( Rs. 12.60 cr ), Jugjugg Jeeyo ( Rs. 12.55 cr ), Bachchhan Paandey ( Rs. 11.50 cr ), Shamshera ( Rs. 10.50 cr ), and The Kashmir Files ( Rs. 8.50 cr ). Fortunately, the movie was able to fare better than some of the others released around the same time, such as Heropanti 2 ( Rs. 5.50 cr ), Radhe Shyam ( Rs. 4.50 cr ), Runway 34 ( Rs. 4.50 cr ), and Jersey ( Rs. 4.34 cr ), as reflected in its second day figures.
As of now, Ek Villain Returns continues to run in theatres and is likely to see an increase in business on its third day running. However, reports suggest that Ek Villain Returns has yet to entice the multiplex going audience in metro cities. Given this fact, trade opines that Ek Villain Returns could see it’s opening weekend business cross the Rs. 20 cr mark.
